Jamie traded successfully at a number of street markets, events and festivals prior to seeking a permanent site for their street food business. Given the level of fitout required for a food business they did not qualify for a pop up or test the market scheme. Encouraged by other street food traders who have come into the market, he successfully applied for a unit. The market has a growing reputation as a street food destination, and they have brought a wide following into the market.

Starting from small beginning on craft stalls and the quayside market, Creations for Occasions have grown to taken the plunge with a unit in the Grainger Market.  Its been a difficult first year but their enthusiasm for their business has made them determined to succeed.

The market is 185 years old!  Located in the heart of Newcastle, the Grainger Market has been an important part of the city’s shopping experience for almost two centuries. This Grade I Listed market retains much of the stunning light and airy architecture designed by John Dobson as part of the architect, Richard Grainger’s redevelopment of the city in the 1830s. Grainger was said to “have found Newcastle of bricks and timber and left it in stone, stone that still stands today”.
